Our Business

Sales Policy
The Cocoa Marketing Company(UK) is solely responsible for the sale of Ghana's cocoa to local and international buyers. It sells to organisations registered with it as licensed buyers.

To Register as a Buyer
Organisations wishing to register as buyers for Ghana Cocoa Beans and Cocoa Products are required:

  1. To apply in writing to the Managing Director of the Cocoa Marketing Company (Gh) Limited
  2. To provide evidence that they have usefully been employed in some capacity in the cocoa trade in a consuming country or that, they are organised in such a way that they can effectively handle the commodity on the International market.
  3. To furnish the Company with the name(s) and address (es) of their bankers to enable it to ascertain the company's financial capabilities of buying at least 2,500 tonnes per crop year - 1st October to 30th September.
  4. To provide evidence of Membership of the Federation of Cocoa Commerce Limited and or the Cocoa Merchants Association of America

Sales Negotiation
Competing buyers are required to bid for Ghana's Cocoa on the basis of the International Cocoa Futures Market values. The CMC accepts the best prices obtainable and negotiations are governed by normal commercial considerations, without discrimination infavour of or against any organisation or individual company.

Communication
Registered buyers can get in touch with the Cocoa Marketing Company (Ghana) Limited directly by telephone, fax or email. Apart from these channels, the CMC (UK), a subsidiary of CMC Ghana is fully organized to receive bids from buyers and transmit them to Accra (Ghana) for decision making. The office in London effectively serves as an additional trading but does not enter into binding contracts.

Contract Quantity
The minimum quantity for a Contract for Cocoa Beans to all the main ports of discharge is 50 metric tonnes while that for the cocoa products is 10 metric tonnes. In certain circumstances, however, the Company may insist on a larger tonnage if that would serve as an inducement to Carriers.

Shipment
Sales are made for three monthly Shipment periods, e.g. October/December, November/January, December/February, etc. for cocoa beans and for two monthly shipment periods, e.g. February/March, March/April etc. for cocoa products. In both cases, the sales are made basis main UK ports. Differentials are chargeable on all European and USA out-ports, and CMC reserves the right to reject declared ports, which are not easily accessible.

Buyers are required to declare ports of destinations either at the time of negotiations or 15 days prior to the commencement of the contract shipment period. Request for change of destination are dealt with on its own merit.

Payment
Sales by the Cocoa Marketing Company (Ghana) Limited, except those made under Special Trade Payment Agreements, are effected on the basis of Cash Against Documents via documentary collection. The Company however, reserves the right to insist on the establishment of Letters of Credit whenever it deems it necessary to do so. All sales by the Cocoa Marketing Company (Ghana) Limited are negotiated on a net basis and all local Bank charges are for the account of the buyer.
